Random Cinematic Awards 2005

Oh, dear readers, it's been too long. I apologize for my absence. I know your life has been more empty because of my failure to update this so-called brilliant blog. But my "hectic" life has prevented me from attending the theater since prior to the New Year. I have the shakes right now due to this development and passionately plan to cure myself this weekend. It's high-time for the first annual Prigge End of the Year Awards. But my movie-going for 2005 must be complete before I do this and, alas, completion has not yet set in. Thus, to wet your ever-growing appetite I present you with an Alternative Prigge End of the Year Awards. And I assure you this dance of cinema will continue soon.................

Best Popcorn Movie of the Year: Sahara

Most Unexpected & Wonderful Movie Ending of the Year: The 40 Year Old Virgin

Best Use of Music in a Movie This Year: "Free Bird" (yes, "Free Bird") in Elizabethtown

Single Funniest Movie Scene This Year: Will Ferrell getting himself barred from the coffee shop for life in Kicking & Screaming.

Most Underrated Movie of the Year: The Weather Man

Most Overrated Movie of the Year: Brokeback Mountain

Best Movie Rental Experience of the Year: Jump Tomorrow (A gem of a little independent movie. This is how a romantic comedy should be done.)

Best Performance Destined to be Forgotten Come Oscar Nomination Time: Claire Danes, Shopgirl

Best Movie for Sixty Minutes Before Falling Apart: War of the Worlds

Worst Movie of the Year: Stealth (The glimpse of comely Jessica Biel in a bikini did not stop from me nearly dozing off at least half-a-dozen times during this epic bomb and, no, don't ask why I was at this movie.)

Most Asinine Movie Review Quote of the Year: "(Revenge of the Sith) is by far the best film in the more recent trilogy, and also the best of the four episodes Mr. Lucas has directed. That's right: it's better than "Star Wars." - A.O. Scott, The New York Times
