At Last

Please join me in offering most heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Kate Winslet, the greatest actress in the world, and now....an Oscar winner.

I'm happy she won, like I'm happy Mr. Scorsese won. I was glad he was finally recognized but when I think back on it, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Scorsese won for the Departed, which on rewatching isn't that great. Ms. Winslett won for The Reader. A good performance? As always is the case with Ms. Winslett but not the best and not even one of her best. This should have been the year of Ms. Leo.

I thought it was a great performance. I truly did. It was my #4 of the year, after all. It was an extremely difficult role to play and I thought she was perfect. It's not a "Scent of the Woman" situation. It's not a Makeup Oscar. (If she'd won for, say, "The Life of David Gale", that would have been a Makeup Oscar.)

But even if I didn't think any of that was true, I still wouldn't care. I'm sooooo happy for her.
