The first film was truly an ensemble, and Ripley only gradually became the lead by process of elimination. So on the unlikely chance that anyone watches this film for the first time and doesn't know that Ripley is the franchise's hero, they are in for an even greater shocker. Modern audiences are not conditioned for movies that kill off the main character halfway through.<br /><br />Also worth noting, <i>Alien</i> (and the other 3 films in the franchise) was released on blu-ray last week, and apparently Fox did an amazing job with the digital remaster.
