I would like you to read the following excerpts from some reviews of the recent film "21" and see if you notice a trend.
"This movie about card-counting MIT math geniuses in Vegas looks like a good bet, but don't double down." - Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com
"21 doesn't quite hit the jackpot" - Moira McDonald, Seattle Times
"(It's) not unlike feeding one nickel after another into a slot machine in search of a modest payoff." - Duane Dudek, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
"In a multiplex of dumb-luck hits, it's a kick to watch Spacey and a gifted young cast use smarts to deal audiences a winning hand." - Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
"21 should have followed Sin City's cardinal rule: What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." - Russ Breimeier, Christianity Today (Why Christianity Today is reviewing movies, I don't know.)
"Lack of originality is where 21 really deals a losing hand." - David Germain, Associated Press
I know I'm just one idiot with a blog but if I reviewed "21" (I don't plan on seeing it, however) I sure wouldn't stoop to this level.
Come on, film critics of America, you're better than this.
The best review of 21 is this.
