We are a movie blog, of course, first and generally foremost, and half-performatively, half-seriously contend that television is an inferior artform. Yet, at the same time, we must admit that because of TV’s semi-takeover of the culture and Hollywood’s emphasis on youth-focused formula, the small screen has become the only place you can find a postmodern version of a Douglas Sirk movie melodrama that takes place entirely on the other side of the looking glass. Which brings me to The New York Times recently naming the best television shows of the 21st century and then inviting readers to submit their own ballots.
