When I sat down to compose this week's variation on The Seasonal "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" Friday Afternoon Quote I deeply desired to provide one of my absolute favorite exchanges from the entire movie. However, I realized the two lines by themselves - out of context, so to speak - don't really make complete sense. You may not find them funny on their own. And yet, they make me howl every time I hear them. They remind me of the facial expressions given by each character and Spock's dead-pan reply.
I thought that perhaps I would include the lines that led up to this point but they come earlier and I didn't want to include two scenes. I also didn't want to give an entire breakdown of the set-up for the brief exchange. So instead I have decided to do something different. I will simply type the lines and you can make of them what you will. Perhaps you won't laugh. Perhaps you will be forced to seek out the film to see what makes them so humorous. Or perhaps you will shrug your shoulders and wonder when I'm going to stop doing this damn quote every Friday. Whatever you choose, it will be your choice.
So here is what we'll call The Seasonal "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" Friday Afternoon (Out-of-Context) Quote.
Gillian: "So you were at Berkeley?"
Spock: "I was not."
