The other night I was returning home on the train and noticed one of the train stops festively adorned with the poster advertising the new Vince Vaughn/Kevin James movie "The Dilemma" which is about....oh, hell, I have no idea. Some sort of dilemma. Does anyone care? Does Vince Vaughn even care? That's not the point. The point is that the absurd blandness of the poster caught my eye in the worst of ways and caused me to recollect how last Christmas my friends Megan and Daryl gifted me this hella cool book packed full of hundreds and hundreds of images of old school noir movie posters. So when I returned home I picked the book up and flipped through it and....well....
Movie posters used to look like this:

Some modern movie posters still manage to be pretty amazing.
Exhibit A
Exhibit B
Exhibit C
Exhibits D and beyond, because Nolan is a man who knows how to make a good movie poster.
Now VHS boxes are a truly lost art.
Ahaah, The Dilemma's poster could be made in 5 minutes in Photoshop. That picture could be taken right out of Google Image. Sad...
In my haste I apparently posted the wrong link for the VHS art. This is what I was intending to post.
That "Inglorious Basterds" poster, that's what I'm talkin' about. I understand the need for all posters these days to showcase the stars but why can't they all be cool like that one? Is it really so hard?
And "Slave Girls From Infinity"? Oh yeah....
