Someone Else Stands Up For Elizabethtown

As is well known, Cinema Romantico is an ardent, unwavering supporter of Cameron Crowe's much maligned 2005 flick "Elizabethtown." Which is why any time any of my esteemed colleagues stand up and defend it I become most decidedly giddy.

Kristin of All Eyes On Screen is the latest to stand up and defend my current favorite movie 'ever'. She writes, amongst many other things, "(F)or me, 'Elizabethtown' is one of those movies I will watch again and again, because the movie captures little moments in life that I’ve experienced, and it’s a great reminder about what’s important in life–not success, but time spent with the people who matter." Do read the whole piece at once. She even tweeted Cameron Crowe about her love of the film and got a tweet back from the Man himself. That's fairly awesome.

Long live Drew Baylor! Long live Claire Colburn! Long live "Elizabethtown"! In fact, I haven't watched it in a few months.....

I don't think I knew that was your favorite film, but there are a lot of things about it I like. So I wouldn't quite say "Got your back, Jack"...but if you ever need help defending some of the film's more overlooked points, you can depend on me.

Just to clarify, "Last of the Mohicans" is still my FAVORITE film, "Elizabethtown" is merely my 'current' favorite film. If that makes any sense.

But I appreciate your support on this matter. If you're just willing to defend the things you like about it, that's good enough for me.

I love your love of Elizabethtown. I don't love Elizabethtown.

However, the first statement is the one that matters more. So few people who want their cinematic credibility to be taken seriously are willing to go out on such limbs. Like the limb I'm going to go out on when I say that A Good Old Fashioned Orgy was my favorite film of 2011. (Just kidding, it's not -- but I bet I have rated it higher than almost any "serious" film fan who's seen it.)

Anyway, it's damn refreshing. Keep it up.

Why, thank you. And don't worry, because I will keep going out on that particular limb from now until the end of time.

So I must ask you, since you are a person who has Elizabethtown as your current favorite and Almost Famous as part of your banner -- what did you think of We Bought a Zoo? I suspect you didn't see it, since I also suspect you would have written about it if you had.

Oh, I saw it. I'm a Crowe junkie. I can't help myself. But I was not a fan of that one.

Nor I.

But Pearl Jam Twenty was a decent if very straightforward documentary.

Oh, just read the review. Nicely put.
